I am currently working as a caregiver while also serving as a member of the Community Revitalization Cooperation Team. I would like to report on the “Community Training Workshop” held on March 14, 2026, in which I participated.
The theme of this training was “Winter Evacuation Shelter Management Experience,” and we engaged in various hands-on activities simulating actual disaster situations.
First, we experienced assembling cardboard beds and partitions. Participants were divided into groups and worked together to complete the tasks. The instruction manuals were mainly written in Japanese, and there were some parts that were difficult to understand. However, with the help of those around us, we were able to proceed with the activities. We also practiced making slippers using newspapers. At first, it seemed challenging, but by following the illustrations, we gradually understood the process.
Next, we sampled alpha rice, which is commonly used as emergency food during disasters. It is very convenient because it can be prepared simply by adding hot or cold water. It also comes with a spoon, making it easy to eat anywhere. Additionally, we learned that there are various types available, including halal-certified options. As I personally cannot eat pork due to religious reasons, I felt a great sense of reassurance and appreciation for such considerations.
Finally, we received explanations about disaster preparedness equipment. Even in situations where electricity is unavailable, there are various tools such as battery-powered or hand-cranked lights and chargers. We also learned about satellite Wi-Fi, which highlighted the importance of securing information during emergencies.
This training was a very valuable experience. One of the key messages was that “it is important not only to have knowledge but also to gain hands-on experience.” By actually participating in these activities, I was able to deepen my understanding and strongly realize the importance of practical experience.
Moving forward, I would like to make use of this experience and continue to enhance my awareness of disaster preparedness as a member of the community.
